BitDefender Internet Security 2012

Virenscanner

BitDefender Internet Security has a detection rate of 97.6% for finding Viruses, Worms, and Trojans. The detection rate for Adware and Spyware is 88% which is low in comparison with other internet suites. However, pro-active Malware recognition delivers much higher ratings.

In addition to its Anti-Virus this Internet Security Suite offers a Firewall, child protection and an Anti-Spam module. WLan monitoring prevents unauthorized access to your WLan network. BitDefender also prevents data loss through security holes in your email program, internet or instant messaging. Chat conversations are even encrypted.

BitDefender is squarely in the mid range as far as scanning speed is concerned. A negative side effect in performance is the relatively high usage of system resources of this software. This is especially reduces performance on systems with low RAM.

BitDefender is not recommended for novices, since the user interface is not easy to use and has a bit of a learning curve.

Advantages

  • Good price to performance ratio
  • Very high virus recognition (98%)
  • Good reaction time to new threats
  • User adjustable security level

Disadvantages

  • Use of software a bit difficult for novices
  • Low recognition rate for Ad- und Spyware

Summary:

BitDefender Internet Security is basically a reliable program and protects from many internet threats. In our opinion, however, you can find better internet Security software on the market. Using the software is not exactly easy and may present a challenge to computer novices.

I had the Anti-Virus BitDefender running on my computer. In time the computer ran slower and slower. I thought nothing of it until I received a tip from a friend. He suggested to search my harddrive for Spyware with PC Tools. I had 6 different Spyware intrusions on my pc despite the Anti-Virus. I couldnâ??t believe it.

I am actually happy with it. Just the user interface could be better, but one can manage.

I had BitDefender 2008 installed and was pretty happy with it. Now version 2009: A catastrophe! The harddrive slowed down to a crawl, rebooted constantly. The Anti-Spam module didnâ??t work which had bad repercussions on my Outlook inbox. Canâ??t turn off BitDefender either. Iâ??ll just have to write off the money and get new software.

Went from Security Shield to BitDefender, same company. Wished I hadn't now home network will not work unless bit defender is off and the internet has to be disconnected. Tooo much trouble. Windows 7 and bit defender don't work together infact I think they are both fighting to control my machines. Would not recommend unless you like having to reset the antivirus every 15-20 minutes and when your on the internet is the wrong time to find out your antivirus decided to stop working and it will for no reason. Well I'm sure it has a reason but it won't tell me what it is so I can fix it, just that it has stopped and needs to be rebooted.

Been using this for several years without too much problems.

Had the same problems which Roscoe describes, but after upgrading to Bitdefender 2011, for free, all was solved.

The price is good and you may use the software on 3 workstations.

The user interface could be better indeed.

As mentioned in another comment. This product doesn't goes well with Windows 7. In fact it will mess up a lot of your settings.

BitDefender 2011 sucks...
It's not fully compatible with Windows 7 64-bit.
It will bring you a lot of small, but very annoying issues, which can't be solved. When you address the problems to support, they will come up with some very basic knowledge and solutions. In other words they act like noobs and amateurs.
I'm sorry to say, I really liked the 2010 version, but the new 2011 is filled with small bugs, which will mess up your system...

I don't know you guys what your problems are , but I'm using it for 4 years now in my company and never had such problems you had .All computers we work with, use an internet connection and no problems at all.Maybe you were infected before you have installed it and some windows files has been already infected.Who knows....!? Now we are using 2011 version on both windows xp and windows 7 64 bit.Recommend it !!

I use Total Security 2011 on XP Pro SP3 - looks excellent and works very well, only issue for me is virus scanning is a bit on the slow side. Before I used Internet Security 2010 which had network issues as well as update issues.
